Theoretically he could not perform the actions necessary to ride/command one due to his dwarfism. TLDR: Tyrion is routinely connected to dragons/ possibly dragon riding. If anyone has a rebuttal I would love to hear it. This is just a thought I had on my reread. But I do not see him going the route of saddleing up and riding one without issue. Maybe he will reveal some unseen skinchanging ability to take command of a dragon. Maybe Tyrion will use his mind to overcome this obstacle. More likely he gets toasted in the process. Even if tyrion has the necessary 'dragon seed' quality to ride one, how will he teach it to respond to his voice/ subtle touches. The voice and hand signals/young horse part of the instruction: Both of dany's remaining dragons are several years old and very wild by the time tyrion gets the chance to see them, let alone ride one. If Tyrions legs cannot hang low enough on a dragon to give the subtle commands necessary then how will he give direction/ride? We don't know much about the ins and outs of dragon riding but we can assume it shares some qualities of horseback. On a horse he may be able to command it with his lower extremities, but a dragon is much much larger. While tyrion lannister has use of his legs they are significantly shorter than the average man's. He also goes on to suggest using vocal and hand signals to take place of the leg motions/ a young horse to ease the training.
tyron himself gives good instruction as to the particular beast that is necessary to work his invention. While when looked from looking at this detail from far away and combined with tryions dragon obsession, it's easy to make the link that one day tyrion will strap a special saddle to a dragon and ride it. I believe this part of the story is more for bran's sake and not at all the truly set up tryion riding a mythical creature.Ī large part of the speculation that tryion will eventually ride a dragon is the saddle that he facilitates for both himself and then bran. Ideally all 'three heads' would command one of dany's dragons(Rhaegal or Viserion), but as i said this theory does not intend to dismantle tyrion being a secret targ/having a role in the eventual triarchy that is continually prophesized. I wont completely submit that tyrion will not be one of the three heads of the dragon, but I think this somewhat weakens his chances of that as well. While i want to believe that Tyrion will mount one of dany's two remaining dragons, I just don't see it being a reality.
